Can we all talk about the woman Eren saw in his flashback for a moment (the one people are apparently calling Geographia)

I have seen some very interesting theories, my favorite being that memories pass down from coordinate to coordinate, thus explaining what Eren's father said about memories. Maybe that's what "To You, 2000 Years From Now" meant. The "you" is not the author addressing us, but a previous coordinate addressing Eren (but what really messes with that theory is that titans have only been around for 100 something years but whatever. Perhaps titans have a longer history than we thought).

Another thing I've seen is that perhaps Christa was the intended coordinate as maybe the Reiss family held all the coordinates, but something happened where Eren ended up getting it instead. Maybe Eren's father was going to visit the Reiss family in the beginning of the story? I've also seen some mentions that perhaps Eren is remotely related to the Reiss line.

Anyway, who is this woman? Why does she look like Christa (to Eren)? How does this relate to Eren's titan abilities? And does this tie in to how Eren seemed to see an older Mikasa at the very beginning of the manga but then awoke to a young Mikasa?

I would enjoy the anime a bit more if it wasn't for people making gif sets that spoil the god damn series in less than an hour.

Not to mention the storyline isn't really that good, you learn NOTHING about the titans which are really the main focus of the story.

Oh, the animation is also incredibly rushed.

Well, now we have spoiler tags on the site, the gif sets aren't such a big deal here (they were kind of the reason the spoiler tag was added in the first place). And the series is still ongoing, so we are probably going to find out who the titans really are eventually, can't play all your twists at once. And about the animation, apparently the DVD releases of the anime fixed alot of the problems. here's some comparisons.

Well considering pretty much all the dub cast has been announced (besides Eren, who will be unveiled at Anime Boston in a few days), what do you guys think? A few dub clips have been released to give a taster (Although to my knowledge, none include my Berty in them). Here are some of them:

Thoughts?

^ I like to joke around by acting like dubs are for filthy casuals, but in reality I am fine with them. I've watched many of my favorite series dubbed. I will probably rewatch it with dubs. These dubs seem quite solid.

on titan is BAD – An analytical video review

Hey there, I'm new to this forum, but I'm pretty passionate about anime. Specifically the stories that anime can bring us. And i just recently made a video about Attack on Titan, and figured that some of you might be interested.

Despite the title of the video I actually think that SnK is pretty good. It just has some major flaws that make it bad overall in my opinion. (mostly in the story and plot departments).
As you can probably tell from the video length, this is a fairly indepth analysis of the show, and has taken me quite some time to write and produce. Naturally, it's very spoiler heavy, but only addresses stuff from the animated show itself. It also contains a small amount of personal speculation in parts.

Most of the review is about addressing a lot of the issues with elements of the plot and characterization, and offering alternatives as I go, to invite discussion.

So I'd love it if you guys could give it an earnest watch and let me know what you think. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on this stuff too, since I've basically completely cut myself off from forums and the like in order to write this without copying other peoples thoughts on the show.

Anyway enough of my rambling, here's the video:

so you're telling me…

(attack on titan isn't really my favourite anime though…)

while i agree with the crystal stuff being bullshit and i too couldn't care less for annie's pseudo emotional uh look a tear uguu~ crap and all i wanted to see for the entire second part of the first season was the realisation of

but it does make sense not to kill her, although, yeah, it's pretty weird that eren suddently had that kind of self-control and i was literally shouting at the screen when he had doubts about attacking annie in titan form.

but i actually can have sympathy for eren, i don't really ahve a problem with his black-and -white world view, neither do i really have a problem with the fact that he was already fucked up in the head as a kid (when rescuing mikasa), and i don't really have a problem with the titan-shifting, only because it's basically battlemecha made of flesh and bones, i don't think that things like that get old when the rest around it is original.

yeah the anime pisses you off a lot and the end is horribly unsatisfying, and the manga continues to do that, giving information away only in little pieces, but the pieces are well portioned enough to keep me interested,
so yeah…

good job on the video though, you really put some work into that and your voice is well recorded (something i hate about commentary in videos is when the voice is recorded bad) adn you certainly thought a lot about the topic.

Actually, there's a video which accurately sums up my thoughts on the characters:

I highly suggest giving it a watch. Remember, there will be spoilers.

That was a very good video, thanks for posting that.

Honestly, my problem with the series is really just it's pacing. It's just too damn slow and sometimes almost nothing happens. I've said this a million times though.
The series still is in my top 5 of last year and I continue to read the manga.

Well, as long as this thread's been reactivated….

Have you guys checked out the dub? I got about five minutes in before turning off. They really stunk it up this time around.

Oh jeez. Who did they get and why didn't they get anyone better?

You'd think with all the money this thing has made they could afford to hire some decent people.

I thought the dub was fine. I especially liked sasha, but maybe that's because it was Ashly Burch playing her. The first few episodes were a bit worse because they were trying to do kid voices, but it got better.

Maybe they're slowly realizing that people just watch the shows with subs when they premiere because the internet exists, so they don't really care anymore.

I think what they need to do is a direct translation and get actors that actually sound like their Japanese counterparts. I think it would sound better that way.

Interesting to see discussion brought back to the thread. Personally I've lost my interest in following dubs, but I'm just fine with the original dub. I have noticed that Funimation has been importing anime at a much faster pace than they did a few years ago. I mean, the dub for AoT came out just over a year after the anime started, and a dub for Kill la Kill is already in the works when that just ended a couple months ago. It's interesting to see the pacing for this stuff increase.

So, as I have joined college this past year I have made my own little circle of friends who like anime among other things. As I learned throughout the year it turned out none of them liked AoT at all. And they really don't like the fandom (particularly the cosplay nazis, which is the only part of the fandom I've noticed as particularly rotten). And I have one friend in particular who loves to say that she doesn't like the show and explain why basically any chance she can get, which can be quite grating at times. But I have won the battle today, gentlemen! (and ladies) One of my friends who previously saw the first 3 episodes and found no interest watched the series with her brother in the last week or so and she enjoys the show now, too! It's nice to finally have someone on my side of the battlefield when it comes to this show.

Yeah, I totally know what you mean. Thankfully, I'm surrounded by non-anime fans (some of which are starting to get into anime through the show), and those I know who are anime fans love the show as much as I do. On the internet however, it's suddenly become the cancer that is killing anime. I can remember joking in the unpopular opinion general, after someone mentioned that their unpopular opinion was not liking AoT, that the real unpopular opinion is actually liking it. It's really a case of the show being not being worth the hype for most people. I feel that it's not because the show is bad, but it's just it's been hyped up as the best thing. I hope the inevitable season 2 brings back more fans when that comes to pass.

Well, the manga is going to be the only source of new material until the second season is ready, so I guess that's the only choice.

Sure, go ahead, just make sure you spoiler tag at least. Not that this thread is getting much use, no one really like AoT anymore except for me and a few others

ok well Im probably the only one that thinks this but they should bring Petra back. im a Levi fan and him and Petra obviously like each other and I just feel really sorry for Levi now.

Kinda hard to bring back a character that was smashed into a giant tree by a titan.
The point of her death was to show that even those with strong connections to more powerful characters aren't safe from their own mortality, which is probably why she was killed off, so I'd prefer her to be dead tbh.

Her death is kinda bullshit though – the typical 'deer in the headlights' situation.

Fan-servicing is a double-edge blade. You might get lots of fans happy, but you'll find people discrediting the show for appealing to fans. And they are only following the manga. And she was well crushed, don't really think they can do much about that.

Reviving this thread back from the dead since the new spin-off series has recently aired

I'm liking how the first episode followed closely small details like from the first episode of the original anime down to the next episode preview it had me rolling. It's nice to have a little refresher from the series since it has been awhile, with its own spin on it of course.

Also I'm sure you guys probably seen the sneak peek of the second series by now, but in case

Looks like were starting off right were the anime left off which is great, I haven't really read the manga so I guess I won't have to worry huge arc skips and cuts…

This chapter actually surprised me, I didn't expect Armin to get killed off. Also I find it funny people are already making "Well Done" jokes

I read an interesting fan theory that Levi is going to save Armin by giving him the titan serum and having him eat/become the colossal titan.

I like it for a couple of reasons:
- Having your skin burned off isn't going to immediately kill you. You'd die eventually, but right now Armin is probably just alive, albeit in incredible pain.
- What it does do is make you resemble the skinless colossal titan. Foreshadowing much?
- It would also let Armin absorb Bertolt's memories, which would be a useful way to move the plot forward.
- It would likewise be a nice resolution to Armin's character arc – letting him have the strength that he's been missing since the start of the series.

Or he might just be dead. Who knows?

Another theory is that Levi gives the serum to Erwin, but I really hope the "Armin-titanizes-and-eats-Bertholdt-for-memories-and-battle-tactics" theory is true, not only because that would be pretty cool and finally give the main characters an edge after so many losses, but also because I can't handle having all my favorite characters getting obliterated in such a short frame of time.
We already lost Erwin, and Sasha ain't looking to good right now. Why you take my smol smart coconut head from me.
But Hange's (or is it spelled Hanji idk varying sources) still alive so that alleviates some of the pain.
BERTHOLDT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Let's see if people still like the series enough to keep this active

The Attack on Titan anime is finally back! Only took them forever. I thought the first episode was pretty great, the beast titan stuff was all awesome and reminded me why I liked this show so much in the first place. The OP was weird though, it feels like they're trying to remake both Guren no Yumiya and Jiyuu no Tsubasa at the same time, I think it'll take me a while to get used to (Although lol @ that T-Rex in the OP).

What did you guys think?

Four years later, but I'm still here.

I was wondering if they were going to use a new intro and, having witnessed it, quite frankly, I liked it. It'll take a couple more of episodes to get used to it but its getting there, drilling through my brain. The animation is as smooth as a hummingbird and I enjoyed the scenes with the beast titan. Great start, if I do say so myself.

Since this thread has already been necroed. How does everyone feel about the direction the story took after the basement reveal?

I really didn't like it personally. I've pretty much lost interest as the story went on after that.
