I asked Amanda to feature this thread for us, so now this is the official hub for Attack on Titan content (and we don't have to worry about auto-lock)

Knowing the future of AoT and this thread, it's pretty obvious that wasn't a wasted feature regardless of the small amount of episodes left right now.

Should make an interesting topic.

I don't think we can assume anymore that titans are just mindless killers. At least the armored Titan, the Collosal Titan, and the female Titan have clear goals and are intelligent. So I think at least the Aberrants can be considered evil. I'd wager that the Collosal and armored titan were also Titan shifters, so that's pretty evil of them.

Good luck waiting years to find out the answer behind that!

Welp, that's it for one season. Now starts the endless wait for season 2.

The episode was glorious and really ended the first season on a really strong note.

Looking back, its funny to see how much I hated Armin. He's become one of my favorite characters. Same with Jean.

Anyways, I think season 1 gets a solid 8.5/10. Besides some horrible pacing for a coupe episodes, I really enjoyed this series a whole lot. the wait is going to be brutal. At least Kill La Kill, Infinite Stratos 2, Blazblue, and Legend of korra will make the wait easier to bear for now.

I hate to say it, because he has always been one of my favorite characters, but I think Riener Braun is the armored titan.

The resemblance is uncanny. I mean, his actions so far have been good. He saved Armin and tried to kill the female Titan. Actually, since the beginning, he's been a good guy. But he looks just too similar.
For reference, look at Annie

New gameplay of the game!

I'm actually pretty shocked that they showed this off at Nintendo Direct. Sure it's Attack on Titan, but the game is still really a spin-off of the anime. The Directs have always been focused on big name games. Hopefully this will come west. Doubt it, but given the popularity of the anime and Nintendo's new tendency to localize popular Japanese games in place of lack of Region-free consoles, there might be a small chance.

I just checked it out just out of curiosity, Mikasa's official height and weight is 5'6" and 150lbs (170cm and 68kilos), a whole ten pounds heavier than Eren and 20lbs heavier than that bodybuilding chick back a couple pages. Damn Mikasa! You scary!

That's one thing I like about Mikasa. She is a badass female solider, but they make it realistic. Instead of some small girl with no muscle tone doing all this crazy shit, she is actually ripped.

For some reason i got the idea to ship Armin X Sasha randomly, Armin has strategic knowledge and judgement, Sasha has natural instinct and intuition, and because of all the books he reads wouldn’t he learn a little bit about farming/potatoes, and there was the part of the second ending where he is randomly smiling at her.

Anybody else who does this?

Errybody, I just blasted through the anime and let me tell you, it was a physical endeavour. Like, heart-pumping, breath-holding, get up to take a break and realize your body is shaking just a little, kind of physical.

Now that I'm done, I want to ask you guys about something. It's very rare that I become this conflicted about spoiling plot stuff for myself, because I know the anime doesn't cover everything the manga does. I have to decide whether to hold out for a possible second season of this show and have things revealed to me then, or read the wiki to find out what of the mystery has been revealed so far. What is the status of season 2? Is it a safe bet for me to wait, or should I just go ahead and read the wiki? Would the revealed information about the titans be something better experienced with all the build up that a second season brings (dat wall at the end!)? Or would reading the wiki still leave enough mystery for me to experience the normal way? Has it been revealed what's in the basement!? QUESTIONS!

Also, Dac, I totally agree about Riener being the armored titan; the resemblance is uncanny.

Guys! I have an insane theory: Grisha Jaeger, Eren’s father, is actually the smiling titan.

Here’s my reasoning:

-When the smiling titan eats Eren’s mom, he breaks her neck first. Now, it’s very brutal, but it does spare her the pain and misery of bleeding to death inside a titan’s stomach. It is, in fact, a kind of mercy. When have we ever seen a titan act mercifully? They don’t have the intelligence for it! The smiling titan is almost certainly a titan shifter of some kind.
-Look at the pictures above. Titan shifters always resemble the people they started from, but in a modified and exaggerated form. Eren’s father has a thin face and long hair, and so does the smiling titan. They don’t match perfectly, but the change would be well within the bounds of what we have seen already.
-His physique is not as great as the other titan shifters, but all the ones we’ve seen have been highly trained soldiers, while Grisha is just a doctor.
-We know from Eren’s flashback that Grisha is involved somehow in him becoming a titan shifter, and whatever it is in the basement must be involved in the shifters’ plan somehow. Clearly he knows a lot more than he is letting on.
-In fact, in the first chapter/episode they mention that Grisha was famous for curing a plague that had swept through the town. Perhaps he did it by making some kind of deal with whatever group Annie et al are associated with?

Basically, there are a lot of little details scattered around that point directly to this conclusion. I think that, once Eren gets to that basement and/or begins to learn more about the titan shifters, this is going to be the big reveal.

The question that remains is why Grisha would take part in the invasion. The bit with the plague might explain it – perhaps this was him living up to his side of the deal? Perhaps he tried to shift and stop the invasion, but then lost all but partial control over his body? In any case, he sum is that episode one shows Grisha killing and eating his wife, which is more than brutal enough to be the kind of thing this manga would do.

End theory.

I wouldn't expect a new season until at least next year, based on how far the manga is.

We can make a reasonable guess as to how much lead time they'll need based on what they had when they started/finished the anime.

The first episode of the anime was aired in early April of 2013, just before the publication of chapter 20 of the manga ("The Special Operations Squad"). The last episode cane out at the end of September and, with it, brought the anime's coverage of the manga up to the very beginning of chapter 35 ("The Beast Titan"), which was published in July of 2012. At the time of the finale, the latest chapter to be published was chapter 49 ("Charge"), meaning that the series ended with a lead of 14 chapters. The most recent chapter published is 52 ("Krista Lenz"), which came out at the start of December. This means that in a few months there will be as much lead time between the anime and the manga as there was when the first episode aired. Thus, I don't see any reason in terms of lead time why the second season couldn't start pre-production now.

Just have to put my input, GREAT anime, watched all 25 episodes during winter break. I wish I could reach the manga though, still not caught up. Developed characters, tense fighting scenes, and overall a very interesting story as it unravels.

So, Chapter 53 was a bucket of fun, wasn't it?

. . .

Wait, we're still talking about the Anime, aren't we? I'll. . .I'll just show myself out.

It was… ok. I mean, nothing really happened, just a whole lot of dialogue, but that is to be expected from this series.

True, but CROSSDRESSING ARMIN.

. . .

c'mon, it was a little bit hilarious. . . What do you mean it wasn't funny!?

Armin makes a very convincing female. It took me a while to realize it was him.

It took me a while to realize. Yeah, it was funny, I was just saying overall it was just ok.
