@Vinyl: I see. Just wondering though, how did they "explain" what happened with her then? (That's what gave me the impression that she did). Personally I'm disappointed since it'd be cool to have a canon voice for her (and my general distaste for the whole mute thing).

I don't think they're going for a mute thing dude, she's just really addicted to listening to her music and doesn't want to take the headphones off and have you ever tried to talk when you're wearing headphones and listening to something? That right there explains why she won't speak.

I mostly commented on that because Jimmy (and others maybe, I can't be bothered to scroll up right now) brought it up.

Oh wow. I hope this doesn't cause a chilling effect that discourages fandom nods in the future.

Maybe this will just mean "If you're going to put in a fandom nod, use a less controversial nod like….." Shit, while I was writing that I can't think of a fandom nod that wouldn't be 'controversial'. Oh well, could've been worse. Purple Tinker could've been in the next issue in the background, think this was a shitstorm? Lol no, THAT would be The shitstorm.

I'm sorry. I haven't been following this whole IDW drama. It sound serious though, what with one of the writers being fired. It would suck if we don't get any more cameo's because of this.

@Teddy being fired: Honestly, I'm VERY glad, though I too don't hope this'll be too much of a barrier to including harmless fan shout-outs to ones who AREN'T awful hypocritical bigots. Was going to give my thoughts on this issue but I suppose this makes it pointless.

So uhh, I noticed someone has been going around on the image gallery unspoilering all the obvious spoilers from Equestria Girls 2. Someone should uhh do something aboot that before some asspain happens.

Dear future comic writers. If you wish to support equality, that's awesome. But please choose which voice to support wisely. Simply picking the most loudest and obnoxious one wont do.

Um… Guys, I'm having one of those moments where I keep looking at my work and seeing that something is wrong… But I'm not sure how to fix it.

See that? I've only managed to put one of those would be ponies into a position where their body position looks in proper perspective… The other two are not. That much should be obvious.

… However, I keep looking at the one I've already (Almost) done, and thinking that one of the hind legs is just… Slightly too "outward" or something… Its not major, in that its only slightly more "side on" looking than it should be, but the effect it sets off in my head is that hoof is on top of a rock or something.

I really have no experience with drawing ponies from this high above. Normally I only get to draw them at an angle that's only slightly higher than they are, so I end up using show style Front+side+"3/4" views.

Any pointers here?

Talk of a soccer mom boycott and MLP ending up on the American Library Association's Banned Books Week list wouldn't just send a shiver down IDW--it would cause Hasbro to have an aneurysm. IDW probably went into full PR damage control mode after that.

I also think another contributing factor was the sheer idiocy of signing every post he made with "I write officially licensed MLP comics for IDW!" It's like if someone on /pol/ who posted about his hatred of blacks signed his posts with "I'm the lead developer of X."

Still no official word on the new policy regarding OCs.

Hi Folks,

If anyone is looking for my thoughts-- I stated it many pages back, but I’ll reiterate and elaborate.

Our comics are meant to be inclusive to everyone. All people, male, female, of any ethnicity and age group are welcome and encouraged to enjoy them. I fully recognize that the background pony in question in the MLP Annual made some feel excluded or hurt, or worse. Therefore it was counter to our goals for the book and was a mistake, for which I apologize.

I personally had a pretty lax approach to allowing background ponies, not thinking they could cause harm. Unless they are a silly parody of a celebrity I recognize, I assume it’s just the artist having fun with a new character design, or including a nod to friends or family. To my eye, it all seemed like harmless fun. Clearly, I was wrong in that regard, and I apologize for any negative feelings that have arisen as a result.

Moving forward, i’ve asked the creative teams to run any background pony cameos past me, so I can be more informed and evaluate whether an appearance is appropriate, based on our goal of inclusion. Suffice to say, my approach will be ‘better safe than sorry’.

If this issue has caused you to drop our MLP books, or any of IDW’s comics, I’m sorry to hear it, but I understand. I’d like to thank you for reading them in the first place.

On Monday I’m going to ask that this return to a “Ask a question of the Editor” thread. The discussion (again, as long as it is civil) is welcome to continue elsewhere on the IDW MLP forum.

If there are any specific questions for me, I’d be happy to answer them to the best of my ability… though please be aware that I can only speak for myself. I will not try to interpret the comments or opinions of anyone else, be they freelancers or fans. I am traveling so cannot guarantee the frequency of my response time. If you have any 3D program with pony models available (e.g. Blender, SFM/Garry's Mod, 3DS Max, etc.) it can help to play around with the models from different perspectives to see if you can get something that looks correct. I had a go at trying to fix the hindleg in GIMP, but it's still not quite there… though I do hope the following attempts I made help in some way:

Fun fact: Few months ago, Ishi Rudell, co-director for Rainbow Rocks was interviewed by HN. When asked about Brad's role, he said that he "thinks they've utilized the character properly for EG2".
In the end, Brad is completely irrelevant in the plot of the movie and almost isn't present.

Well considering the only scene where he spoke before the Sirens came along he showed much more of a personality in those few lines than he did in the entire first movie….so I already think he's an improvement.

Just read an MLP Fanfic because I was bored as hell. It's about a guy who unknowingly gets exposed to some weird magic done by his crazy and magic-obsessed friend who is a female brony. Guy slowly turns into a pony, and hilarity ensues. (Don't worry. The spell is temporary, and he doesn't lose his memories.) Here is the story:

The first one looks almost right for a wide stanced pose at the right angle… But the intended pose was more "moving backwards".

As for 3D programs… I don't exactly have one, though I do have a couple of decent figurines… Non pose-able though. So maybe I should get one of those programs… Any of them free?

I know absolutely nothing about 3D programs, but a quick google search revealed Blender, which is aparently an open source (free) #D desing/rendering program. There's also SFM, which is what's used for most of the 3D pony animations these days.

Oh, Celestia. Help. I'm reading a fanfic that's a sequel to the fanfic about a high school guy who gets turned into a pony by a girl who is obsessed with magic and witchcraft…and I love it. Now it's about a guy who asks out a girl he has a crush on on a date…and that same crazy witch-girl decides to cast a spell on them to turn both of them into ponies!

The idea of a human turning into a pony against his/her will is kinda creepy, but the way the victim tries to handle the situation after the transformation is what I like about the story.

Actually, there is a great example right there in EqG2!

This is Pixel Pizzaz who you may have seen hanging out with Photo Finish in a number of scenes in the movie.
As it turns out, she is based on the artist PixelKitties who has been pretty big in the fandom for a few years now.
If you don't know the name, she has made tons of banners of EqD, comics, souvenirs, autograph posters for VA appearances at conventions, and she even got to design a couple cards for the MLP CCG recently.
But most relevant to the current topic, she also makes stuff like this:

Basically, every mention of her I have seen has been very positive and she always seems to be out there drawing, having fun, and generally calling for people to be cool.
In a fandom as dramatic as this one is at times, she's one of the least controversial people I can think of and was a very good choice for that little bit of recognition.

I guess it is technically speculative as I haven't heard direct confirmation from any DHX animators or anything, but the name and design (semi-gothic, double pigtails) are very reminiscent of PixelKitty's designs and she has had a very good relationship with lots of people on the staff.
Could still be coincidence, but I'm going under the impression that it is intentional until I hear differently.

For all the issues with Flash as a character, I do like that his VA seems to still have a good sense of humor about him:

So I just finished reading <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/192520/yeah-it-needed-more-ponies">"Yeah, It Needed More Ponies", which is a sequel to <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/180925/cool-story-bro-but-it-needs-more-ponies">"Cool Story Bro, But It Needs More…Ponies?", and I gotta say, it was funny, cute, adorable, heartwarming, and awesome. Had a few twists to keep me engaged in the fanfic, and had a bunch of "Uh-oh!" and LOL moments to keep me entertained. I have never thought a "human turned into a pony" fanfic would be so awesome. Here are the characters in the fanfic:

Lyle- main character of the story. Has a crush on Emily.
Emily- Lyle's crush and a secondary main character in the story.
Angela- Lyle's friend and brony who is obsessed with witchcraft. After realizing that the transformation spell actually works in the prequel of the fanfic, she decides to use on Lyle and Emily for the date. Things do not go exactly as planned, however.
Ben- Angela's assistant. Introduced in the sequel, assists Angela in the transformation spell.
Liz- Emily's younger sister. Appears in the middle of the story, but has a significant role towards the end of the fanfic.

-Angela tries to come up with a transformation spell later. Ben arrives, introduces himself, and agrees to assist Angela with the spell.

-Spell is used on Lyle and Emily, but it turns out that not only does the spell target both characters, but it doubles the process! Spell was casted at 4am according to Angela, and Lyle and Emily were supposed to turn into ponies by 4pm, but it turns out that the transformation will finish at 10am instead.
-Ben agrees to take over Lyle's spot during school while Lyle rushes back to check on Emily.
-Emily is staying at home since she is "sick". Luckily, no one else except her is at home.
-Lyle tells Emily what is going on.
-Both of them transform into ponies.
-Lyle is a yellow earth pony with cyan mane and tail. Cutie mark is a scroll with roman letters on it. (Because Lyle is a history nerd)
-Emily is a cyan pegasus with pink mane and tail. Cutie mark is a clear pond.

-To kill time, both of them play SSBM for Gamecube. Apparently, both of them love video games, and they can actually hold the Gamecube controller well with their hooves.
-Emily's father arrives! Emily flies with Lyle carrying hanging onto her. Both of them crash into the bush.
-Lyle and Emily are chased by a horde of wiener dogs. Both of them end up running into a park.
-Emily decides to take flying lessons by herself in a well-concealed park area with tall trees.
-When people arrive, both ponies hide behind a bush and eat tulips for lunch.

I must say, I kinda feel sorry for him. It's not really his fault that the character he voiced became one of the most hated characters by the fandom.

-Both of them arrive at a circle-shaped lake with huge moonlight shining down from it.
-Cue romantic moment between both of the ponies. No, there was no kissing involved, because both of them only got to know each other for day. There was a huge hug by Emily, though.
-Both of them return to Angela's home. Along the way, Ben, Angela, and Liz finds them. Angela and Liz have both been turned into ponies.
-Angela is a pink unicorn pony with green mane and tail. Cutie mark is…I forgot.
-Liz is a light blue unicorn pony with white mane and tail. She has no cutie mark.
-Both of them arrive at Angela's house, talk about what happened, and the story ended on a happy note with all of the character solving their problems. Good thing the spell is temporary. Angela and Liz are gonna have fun with it, though.

Sorry about the loooooooong post. After reading it, I think I found another favorite MLP fanfic. I read a lot of weird fanfics in the past ("What do you do with a drunken unicorn?", "Pinkie Pie discovers coffee", "Fluttershy discovers animal crackers"). I found myself reading not just another weird fanfic, but a creative and adorable one. Once again, I had no idea that the fanfic was going to be very good until I started reading it. Despite having no central conflict in the story, I loved how well the author handled the story and how the characters were handling their issues before, during, and after the transformation.

If I read another awesome MLP fanfic, I'm probably spill my beans by posting the summary of the fanfic in my own words in this thread again.

Yeah I know it's weird. For a character that's only real flaw is having no real personality he gets a lot more hate than characters that are usually labeled as 'Douche bags' or 'cunts' by the fandom. Guess it's better to be an irredeemable asshole than to be someone that was obviously added because some higher up at Hasbro said "Twilight should have a boyfriend."

So… I finally managed to redo the pose to make it look more in perspective.

It's only open during Open Server Weekends, which is announced on the LoE website. My OC's cutie mark is currently a chess piece, but I want it to be an SNES game controller, since SNES was my very first video game system that I owned and played when I was young (and it's still my favorite).
