I can't login my computer after Windows update. it says the password is incorrect. However, it is the one I am using for months. What is the problem and is there any way to fix it other than reinstallation?

Is your caps lock on? Is your keyboard malfunctioning and not putting in the correct inputs (try testing the keyboard on a different computer or trying a different keyboard)? Did someone troll you and reset your password?

In the future, you can create a password reset disk to prevent this from happening again.

You're fucked kiddo. The only thing to do now is to get all the important files you really need from your hard disk, and do a clean install of your OS.

Reinstall would be my last option. I have some important files in C drive. Thanks

Have you tried restarting? I would say I'm joking, but there's a weird Windows 10 glitch I've seen on my domain where domain joined computer's will randomly not be able to log in under any profile until you restart. I get about 3 calls a week about this.

Again, it's probably not your issue, so luckly there are other options. There's a few password reset programs that you can burn to disk and reset passwords, or if you are able to get into the command line, you can use a command to reset your password.

dsmod user <UserDN> -pwd <NewPassword>

Of course you'll have to replace the brackets with the info that belongs there. Good luck.

If you do not know the password, you will need a utility to manually remove the password. Use another computer, obviously, and print out the pages for reference – you will need them handy as you go through the steps! The most popular of these utilities is Offline NT Password Editor which can be downloaded and burned to a CD. There are detailed instructions on how to use this program, but it isn’t without its dangers.

If you use any type of encryption in Windows, this either will fail or will make your computer inaccessible! This should ONLY be used as a last resort if you’ve totally forgotten your password and are locked out of Windows. The recovery methods varies depend on your Windows version. If you're using Windows 7/Vista or XP, boot your system into safe mode and you can access the hidden administrator account without password.

If you're using Windows 10/8 and forgot a Microsoft account password, you can use another PC to reset your password online.

This may be retarded to say, but have you possibly tried a brute force attack on your password using specific hackware, considering it doesn't have two or three step authentication, and that there is an unlimited amount of attempts that can be made? Brute force attacks practically uses every definition of a password or random algorithm to crack a code within a considerable short amount of time, so long as there is no hindrance to it.

Once you have Command Prompt on the startup screen, simply change the login credentials of your account with a few commands you can probably look up.
