100% Off Discount Coupon is a phrase referring to a gun. The phrase has been used in GIFs and videos, often of someone entering a store and threatening to rob it, joking that their gun or other weapon is their "100% off discount coupon."

Origin

On August 6th, 2022, iFunny^[1] user Zynthetic uploaded the earliest use of the meme in GIF Caption format. The GIF shows a man showing his pistol and the caption reads "me showing the shopkeeper my 100% off discount coupon". The post received 65 smiles in seven months (authorship unconfirmed, shown below).

Spread

A few weeks later, the format gained popularity on Reddit. On August 16th, 2022, a now-deleted Reddit^[2] user uploaded a similar meme titled "yo why he scared?" to the /r/memes subreddit. The post received more than 4,100 upvotes in seven months (shown below, left). On August 26th, 2022, Reddit^[3] user Silly-Garbage-3296 uploaded an image to the same subreddit that received more than 5,500 upvotes in seven months (shown below, right).

On October 30th, 2022, TikTok^[4] user @slushyslush_2.0 uploaded a Slow Motion Gun Animation edit that received more than 6.2 million views in five months (shown below, left). On January 20th, 2023, TikTok^[5] user @Fixing_Good45 uploaded an
POV edit using a scene from the video game Dead Space. The video received more than 102,000 views in two months (shown below, right).

On March 16th, 2023, iFunny^[6] user Deadpool101101 uploaded an image by using Cr1tikal with a gun screenshot that received more than 46,100 smiles in five days (shown below).
