The "3 2 1 Bang" Handstand Challenge is a trend and internet challenge on TikTok where users perform a handstand by putting one foot out in front of them against a wall, spin around to face away from the wall, then lean over and place their hands on the ground, finally doing the handstand. Each step is done in time with an audio clip of a man counting down from three and then saying "bang." The trend became popularized on TikTok in June 2022.

Origin

On May 18th, 2022, TikToker[1] @echer.us posted a video where he lip dubs to a countdown from three and then transitions his outfit, gaining over 38.9 million views in a month (shown below).

It is unknown who first did the handstand trend over the audio. The earliest known video performing the trend was posted by TikToker[2] @red_aidana on June 13th, 2022, and shows the TikToker and her daughter, in time with the countdown, placing one foot on a wall on three, spinning on two and placing their hands on the ground on one, performing the handstand on "bang." The video gained over 19.5 million views in two weeks (shown below).

Spread

The trend spread over the course of the month as users performed the handstand challenge under the same original sound, which inspired over 240,000 videos by June 25th, 2022. For example, on June 18th, TikToker[3] @iamkelianne posted a video doing the trend, gaining over 12.1 million views in a week (shown below, left). On June 19th, TikToker[4] @fujiiian posted a video doing the trend, gaining over 43.2 million views in six days (shown below, right). On June 23rd, Dexerto[5] reported on the trend.
