About

My Happy Song, also known as the Happy Happy Happy song, refers to a simple song with a high-pitched, child-like voice singing the word "happy" over and over. It first trended as the audio for a moldy video of Family Guy's Peter Griffin dancing in a car within the game Warped Kart Racers. The song then trended on TikTok as a sound, inspiring a TikTok trend in November 2022 in which creators humorously outlined scenarios or personal habits that contrasted the song's insistence on happiness. The song's name is "My Happy Song" by Super Simple Songs (a kid's YouTube channel).

Origin

On November 7th, 2019, the YouTube[1] channel Super Simple Songs posted an animated, children's music video for their song "My Happy Song," earning roughly 110.4 million views over the course of three years. At the 0:57-minute mark, the song's narrator says, "Let's try a high voice," and a high-pitched character sings, "Happy, happy, happy," repeating it multiple times along with the melody (shown below).

Sometime in mid-2021, a currently unknown creator screen-recorded gameplay from the Apple store mobile app game Warped Kart Racers. The gameplay footage shows them racing as Peter Griffin on the stage "Stewie's Time Machine" and specifically records Peter's dancing celebration after finishing the final lap. On May 20th, 2022, YouTuber[2] Giacomo Renevi uploaded footage of Peter's celebration dance on the "Stewie's Time Machine" stage (shown below). However, it is not the exact footage used in the later viral video due to Giacomo Renevi being hit with a "blue shell" before finishing the final part of Peter's dance.

At some point in mid-2021, a meme creator recorded similar gameplay footage as YouTuber Giacomo Renevi but set the short video to the song "A Pimp Named Slickback" by Lakim[3] which sampled audio from the Adult Swim cartoon The Boondocks. Currently, the first known video of this nature was uploaded on June 11th, 2022, by TikToker[4] zippy_slider, gaining roughly 29,300 plays and 1,000 likes in five months (shown below). A similar version of the meme was shared on Instagram,[5] Twitter[6] and YouTube[7] in the month that followed.

On October 27th, 2022, TikToker[8] rxixver posted the Peter Griffin dancing in Warped Kart Racers video, replacing the audio with the "My Happy Song" from Super Simple Songs on YouTube.[1] Over the course of one month, the TikTok received roughly 1.9 million plays and 150,400 likes (shown below).

Spread

Following TikToker[8] rxixver's use of both the Peter Griffin video and the "My Happy Song," other creators started uploading similar content using both the sound and the visual. For instance, on October 30th, 2022, TikToker[9] kokichiscrustytoenails posted a version with text overlay related to no sleep but having to attend school, gaining roughly 280,000 plays and 41,500 likes in four weeks (shown below, left). Also on October 30th, 2022, TikToker[10] animalcr0ssing_._ posted the video with no text overlay, gaining roughly 896,900 plays and 127,600 likes over the same time period (shown below, right).

As the Peter Griffin video trended, TikTokers began using only the "My Happy Song" audio, pairing it with text overlay videos that outlined bad scenarios or habits which the over-enthusiastic sound contrasted. One of the first viral uses of this nature was uploaded on November 17th, 2022, by TikToker[11] me1qn1e, earning roughly 8.7 million plays and 2 million likes in six days (shown below, left).
