About
A Younger Person Wouldn't Understand refers to a game in which users on Twitter and Reddit reveal something they remember that if told to a younger person, they wouldn't understand.
Origin
On December 28th, 2016, music publicist Eric Alper tweeted "Without revealing your actual age, what (sic) something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?"[1] The tweet, shown below, inspired the game, generating over 22,000 replies and gaining over 1,500 retweets and 3,800 likes.
Spread
Alper's tweet prompted hundreds of responses from Twitter users indulging in nostalgia and discussing outdated technology. Popular responses remembered the impossibility of using the internet and the phone at the same time,[2] when cereal boxes came with records,[3] and the difficulty of finding pornography.[4] Other users brought up the political climate and the rise of the white nationalist and conservative sides of American politics.[5] The game also spread to a thread on Reddit[6] which gained 1,337 points and 3,445 comments. The game made Twitter moments[7] that day and was covered by the Daily Dot.[8]
