Adam Friedland Selfie refers to a selfie posted by Cum Town podcast member and The Adam Friendland Show member Adam Friedland to his Twitter account in late September 2015. The image of Friedland has also been the comedian's Instagram profile picture since 2015. The photo is used in memes as an exploitable visual reference to make fun of millennial hipster culture in general.
Origin
On September 28th, 2015, Friedland first uploaded the photo to his Twitter[1] account. This first posting received 21 likes over the course of six years. The image (shown below) shows Friedland smirking provocatively, wearing glasses and sporting long hair.
Spread
The image of Friedland received attention as an exploitable starting most notably in early 2017. Friedland seemed to be making and posting most of the memes using his selfie early on. On January 18th, 2017, Friedland posted an edited version of the image to his Instagram,[2] using a Snapchat to make himself look more Kawaii. The image (shown below) received 239 likes over four years.
On March 10th, 2017, Friedland posted a screenshot of a Mexican Tinder profile using his selfie as its primary one. The screenshot was sent to him by a fan which he then posted to both his Twitter[3] and Instagram[4] accounts. The image (shown below) received 121 likes on Twitter and 335 likes on Instagram over the course of four years.
As Cum Town began to receive more mainstream attention going into 2018, the image of Friedland became a more notable exploitable going into that year. For instance, Friedland used it in a meme posted to his Instagram[5] on December 17th, 2017, which received roughly 3,900 likes over the course of four years (shown below).
Going forward, the selfie was used in memes on the r/CumTown subreddit (which has since been banned and deleted) and across Instagram and Twitter. Memes using the image are also prevalent on the r/redscarepod[6] subreddit and the r/CumTownChat subreddit.
