About

Ahegaokin (アヘ顔菌 that can be translated into English as "Bacteria of the orgasmic face"), is an exploitable phenomenon reusing the ahegao face and placing it on different characters. The meme focuses on close-up pictures of characters having their eyes rolled out and their tongue sticking out of their mouth as if they were experiencing a great amount of pleasure.

Origin

On July 10th, 2008, pixiv^[1]^[2] user ゆきまん created and posted a picture of a close-up face of "Patchouli,"^[3] a character from the Touhou series, with an ahegao face, an expression that appears between orgasmic euphoria and the lead up to a sneeze.

Spread

The success and popularity of the image led to the user posting a template of the image. On July 18th, 2008, ゆきまん posted a template of the design (shown below, left).^[4] Following the release of the template, users^[5] on the site shared variations of the image, creating versions of other pop culture figures (examples below, center and right). The tag used to name that phenomenon is アヘ顔菌. While it has a clear visible sexual undertone with it, that face is seen as a disease virally infecting whichever character has been drawn that way.

Desu Desu

In April 2010, a Suiseiseki picture was reused as an Advice Dog meme called Desu Desu, which name is closely related to another well-known meme involving that character. The meme features the template styled in the image of Suiseiski (shown below).
