About
AI Video Game Merging or AI Video Game Mashup Mods is an AI trend where an artificial intelligence program, usually Opus 5.5, is used to merge two video games, combining features from each.
The trend emerged in late September 2026 and carried on through early October 2026, going viral on sites including X, Reddit and TikTok. It was popularized by a social media user known as Chasm. The games are merged by prompting AI to rewrite and essentially reverse-engineer the code in two games until they are compatible.
Origin
On September 19th, 2026, X[1] user @chasmmmmmmmmmmm posted a video showcasing a project where they "rewrote Skate 3 in Rust," gaining over 6,000 likes in a month.
This is the real future of game preservation.
I rewrote Skate 3 in Rust, aiming for 1:1 behaviour through a human-and-AI development loop.
Codex helped reverse engineer how the game works and connect its assets, action graphs and motion graphs in a separate engine.
Every game is open source now.

On September 27th, the same X[2] user posted a video where someone merged skateboarding mechanics into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, writing, "AI HACKERS HAVE PUT SKATEBOARDING IN CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2," gaining over 29,000 likes in just over a week.

On September 28th, the same person uploaded a video to their YouTube[3] channel showing Call of Duty merged with Minecraft, gaining over 619,000 views in about a week.

The trend continued throughout early October 2026.
On September 29th, 2026, X[4] user @TobynJacobs posted a video showcasing Minecraft inside of Elden Ring, gaining over 308,000 likes in a week.
The video was posted to the /r/singularity[5] subreddit that day, gaining over 3,000 upvotes in a week.

On September 30th, YouTuber[6] LudocowTV posted a video discussing the trend and what impact it might have on the gaming industry, gaining over 150,000 views in a week.
That day, X[7] user @cydonix posted a video showing Skyrim merged with Escape From Tarkov, garnering over 14,000 likes in a week.

That same day, Chasm posted a video on YouTube[8] about the trend, titled, "Modding has Change FOREVER…," gaining over 2.4 million views in a week.
On October 1st, Video Cardz[9] published an article about the trend, sharing numerous examples from X in their article.
