The Almost Kissing Monkey GIF refers to a GIF showing a guy almost kissing a monkey through a fence. The man and monkey's lips are almost touching. The GIF humorously portrays romantic tension. It gained viral use on Twitter / X in March 2025. The GIF originally comes from a Chinese viral video first shared on Bilibili and Douyin in late 2024.

On September 20th, 2024, Bilibili[1] user 行者服不服 shared a video of himself and his pet monkey almost kissing through a fence. The video received over 4,800 likes in six months (shown below). He also posts videos to Douyin.[2]
Spread
On September 29th, 2024, Redditor[4] Aquib15 posted the video to /r/indiameme, captioning it, "Edging pro max," receiving 93 upvotes in six months.
In late 2024, other videos from Bilibili user 行者服不服 almost kissing his monkey were reposted on western social media, like a video posted by TikToker[3] @monkey.amazing on November 8th, gaining over 69,200 likes in four months (shown below).

On February 13th, 2025, X[5] user @RlCKYRAGE tweeted a GIF of the original video, captioning it, "In my head… I play a supercut of us…" receiving over 29,000 likes in a month (shown below).
On February 14th, X[6] user @makeupbyshaniah tweeted the GIF, captioning it, "And I hope I'm not sounding too desperate… I need love and affection," receiving over 93,000 likes in a month (shown below).
Viral use of the GIF resurfaced on X[7] in March 2025.
