Another Day, Another Banger or Ogey is an image macro template where one person or character says something, and another interprets it unusually. In the 2020s, the format saw use in memes about history and politics, though it has also seen use in the context of fiction.
Origin
The earliest known iteration of the meme SO FAR (if anyone knows of earlier iterations please let us know) comes from the communist subreddit /r/whenthelandlordissus, in an August 15, 2021 post by a now-deleted account.[1] The image featured Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky calling for global revolution, which Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev interprets as a call to invade Afghanistan, which he does to Trotsky's confusion.
Spread
The format saw further use across the internet from 2022 onwards on sites like Reddit, Twitter, and iFunny.[2] Early on, it usually referenced Marxist thought in some form or another. But starting at least in September 2022,[3] versions of the meme appeared that had no references to Marxism and referenced either history in general or works of fiction like Game of Thrones.
New iterations of the meme continued to be posted throughout the subsequent years, expanding the scope of the format into a general template, usually in the context of world history or political theory.
