App Logo Parodies, also known as My Twitter Automatically Updated, refers to people sharing screenshots of the apps on their phones under the guise of discussing Twitter's rebrand to X and the subsequent logo change. Memes in which people used the various apps on their phone to spell out words or downloaded a comedic set of apps to make a humorous screenshot spread on the internet in July 2023.
Origin
The earliest known viral joke about app logos in relation to Twitter's rebrand was a tweet shared by Twitter user[1] @mike27356894 on July 23rd, 2023, gathering over 420,000 likes in a week (seen below). The tweet showed a set of apps on the user's phone that came close to spelling out the words "gay sex."
Spread
Various internet users posted comedic screenshots of apps on their phones in the days following @mike27356894's initial tweet. For example, Twitter[2] user @soocleansofresh posted a tweet on July 29th, 2023, that gathered over 4,000 likes in three days (seen below, left). Also on July 29th, Twitter[3] user @TheRealNeoThe posted a tweet that gathered over 5,000 likes in three days (seen below, right).
Various accounts participated in the trend on July 30th, with Twitter[4] user @ilovefnafyaoi posting a tweet that gathered over 80,000 likes in two days (seen below, left). On July 29th, Twitter[5] user @geomaniac_ reacted to the trend by making a drawing parodying it, gathering over 31,000 likes in three days (seen below, right).
