About
Blaze Your Glory! is a motto introduced for Twitter after it was rebranded to X by its owner Elon Musk in late July 2023. Once the change was made, many on the website criticized and mocked it, as many felt the catchphrase had little to do with the function of Twitter.
Origin
On July 31st, 2023, Elon Musk[7] tweeted "Blaze Your Glory!" without context, gaining over 16,000 retweets and 209,000 likes in one day (shown below).
Minutes later, Twitter pushed an update on the iOS App Store that made the catchphrase for its "X" rebrand "Blaze Your Glory!"[1] The previous phrase for the Twitter app's description was "Let's Talk." The news was posted to Twitter by several media outlets that day, including @PopBase,[2] whose tweet about the change gained over 450 retweets, 12,000 likes and 7,500 quote-tweets in one day (shown below).
Spread
The change was widely mocked on Twitter, as many felt the phrase had little to do with the function of the app or seemed nonsensical. For example, on July 31st, 2023, Twitter user @esjesjesj[3] commented that the phrase was meaningless and likely dreamed up by Elon Musk, gaining over 3,700 retweets and 73,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). The same day, user @YourAnonNews[4] described the catchphrase as "the apotheosis of cringe," gaining over 150 retweets and 2,300 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).
Others posted jokes about the new phrase as it continued spreading online. On July 31st, 2023, Twitter user @JarJarFan69[5] posted the caption with a screenshot of the "Planet of the Bass" video, gaining over 40 retweets and 860 likes in one day (shown below, left).
The same day, Twitter user @DailyTrix[6] posted a parody of the catchphrase by pairing it with several images of Tesla cars on fire, referencing the numerous safety issues reported in Tesla vehicles. The tweet gained over 30 retweets and 80 likes in one day (shown below, right).
