Badussy

About

Badussy or Budussy is a slang term that combines the words "butt," "dick" and "pussy," used to define the combined smell of all three together. It is often used to reference the smell that might be present after sex. The term was first used by Bernie Mac in the 1997 film How to Be a Player, spreading significantly online over the course of the 21st century in memes, inspiring a TikTok trend in 2021.

Origin

On August 6th, 1997, the film How to Be a Player^[1] was released in North America. The film features Bernie Mac in a supporting role. In one scene, Mac says while being seduced, "It stinks in here. What's that smell? It smell like budussy: booty, dick and pussy. I'm telling you, it's all up in here" (shown below). This is the first known use of the term.

Spread

The term "budussy" has grown in use online over the course of the 21st century, appearing in memes occasionally throughout the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

In 2016, an audio clip of Bernie Mac saying "it smells like budussy" over a clip from SpongeBob SquarePants gained significant spread in the mid- to late 2010s (shown below, reuploaded to YouTube).^[5]

"Baby, Why It Smell Like Badussy?" TikTok Trend

On June 11th, 2021, rapper Tyga released the song "Splash" with Moneybagg Yo, including the term "badussy" in the lyrics rapped by Yo: "He like, "Bae, why it smell like badussy?" (What?) Booty, dick, and pussy (Let me hear you say)" On June 18th, TikToker^[2] @nmillz1 posted a video lip-dubbing over this string of lyrics from the song as an original sound, garnering over 6.3 million views in a month (shown below).

The sound spread significantly over the course of June 2021, inspiring over 122,000 videos on the platform in just over a month, many in skits referencing bad smells (popular examples shown below, left and right).

On June 25th, TikToker^[3] @theyluvjohnny posted a video taking out and smelling his earring to the sound, implying it smells bad or "like badussy" garnering over 700,000 views in a month (shown below, left). On June 30th, Tyga used the sound on TikTok^[4] telling other people to do this, garnering over 10 million views in just under a month (shown below, right).

Continued Spread

Tyga's song helped spread the term across the web, inspiring more memes about it. On June 28th, 2021, Instagram^[6] user inhalemywasps posted an image macro showing a confused Drake and the text, "wtf is a badussy," garnering over 12,500 likes in three weeks (shown below).
