The Ballerina Twins is a common name for the pair of female android characters from the 2023 video game Atomic Heart, designed as two tall metallic women with crown braids. Online, the characters became a subject of intense robot fetishism hornyposting and memes, in part to their imposing, dominating presence (not unlike Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village).
On August 25th, 2022, the official trailer for the then-upcoming video game Atomic Heart premiered on YouTube. The trailer introduced two robotic characters, officially called The Twins (also referred to as "Left" and "Right"), who appear as tall metallic women wearing crown braids with a red star on their foreheads.
On January 3rd, 2023, the gameplay reveal trailer for the game premiered, with The Twins appearing in the trailer (shown below).
In addition to trailers, The Twins also appear on the cover art of the game and in other promotional materials leading up to the title's release date.
On February 21st, 2023, Atomic Heart was officially released. In the game, The Twins are creations of roboticist Dmitry Sechenov, and always accompany him as his personal bodyguards and assistants.
Following the August 2022 trailer, the characters saw an initial spike in popularity as subjects of fan art. For example on September 4th, 2022, DeviantArt user UtochkaG posted a fan art of the character that was favorited over 25 times (shown below, left). On September 22nd, Redditor Obama_The_Based posted an Ironic Doge Meme about the characters that received over 490 upvotes in the /r/atomicheart subreddit (shown below, right).
On November 12th, 2022, Redditor Obama_The_Based posted a fake IGN macro falsely claiming that Atomic Heart will have a six-hour sex cutscene between the main character and a Ballerina Twin (shown below). The post, which originally garnered over 620 upvotes in the /r/atomicheart subreddit in three months, went viral on social media in January 2023. For example, on January 9th, 2023, Twitter user @ARealJillPlush posted the image, with the post gaining over 2,400 retweets and 25,100 likes in one month.
After the release of the January trailer, the amount of online hornyposting about the characters increased further. For example, on January 4th, 2023, Twitter user @Krekkov posted an edited image from the trailer in which one of the Twins holds a positive pregnancy test. The post gained over 1,200 retweets and 13,300 likes in one month (shown below, left). On February 14th, Twitter user @L3GALC0N posted his findings about the true height of The Twins, concluding that they must be 8'9'' (268 cm) tall (shown below, right).
Following the release of the game on February 21st, 2023, the characters became a viral subject of fan art, memes and hornyposting online across several sites and social media platforms.
Yulia Tymoshenko Resemblance
On February 21st, 2023, Twitter user @DinkaKay highlighted that the design of the characters bears a strong resemblance to Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of a Ukrainian political party, known for styling her hair in a braid crown. The tweet (shown below) was followed by reports in the news from various online media.
On February 20th, 2023, Atomic Heart developer Mundfish launched an Instagram account for the Twins, posting AI-generated imager of the duo to it. The account (shown below) garnered over 41,000 followers in two weeks.
