Battle Kitty Dance is a dance trend on TikTok where users perform a dance by the character Kitty from the Netflix animated series Battle Kitty, which involves resting your hands on your hips and jerking your body rhythmically to the song "Back Stabbers Jersey Club Mix." The clip was uploaded to TikTok in late May 2022 and the dance went viral in June.

Origin

The animated series Battle Kitty, based on the webcomic "The Adventures of Kitty & Orc," was released on Netflix in April 2022. The protagonist Kitty performs a number of dances throughout the series, including one where she dances underwater next to a pink dress. The clip was uploaded to YouTube^[1] by Netflix as part of a dance compilation from the show on April 30th, gaining over 2.2 million views in two months (shown below).

On May 28th, 2022, TikToker^[2] @narancias_bestgirl posted a cropped version of the clip set to the song "Back Stabbers Jersey Club Mix"^[3] captioned, "Me when the forever 21 music be hittin a lil to hard," gaining over 800,000 views in three weeks (shown below).

On June 4th, TikToker^[4] @justindiecisive posted a "duet": with the video where he performs the dance with Kitty, gaining over 814,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

Spread

The dance spread under the original sound over the following weeks. On June 14th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @rodneyyyt posted a video doing the dance, gaining over 475,000 views in two days (shown below, left). On June 15th, TikToker^[6] @gushy2000 performed the dance on a staircase, gaining over 902,000 views in a day (shown below, right).

On the same day, singer Khalid posted a video to TikTok^[7] doing the dance, gaining over 658,000 views in under 24 hours (shown below).
