Bearded Man with Glasses taking off Mascot Peach Head is an image macro series based on a behind-the-scenes photo from the production of a commercial for the video game Nintendo Mario Superstar Baseball. In the picture, a man in a beach costume is pulling the enlarged mascot head from his head.

Origin

On December 13th, 2013, KCL Costumes published behind-the-scenes videos and photos from the shoot for a commercial for the 2005 Nintendo video game Mario Superstar Baseball.^[1] One picture features a man with glasses and a beard pulling off a Peach helmet (shown below, left). The video posted to YouTube by KCLcostumes that day received more than 191,000 views in less than eight years (shown below, right).

Spread

In 2018, the photo became the subject of controversy, after the Twitter account @MarioBrothBlog published the image, which Twitter flagged for sensitive content.^[2] The account later tweeted a screenshot of the tweet and wrote, "Below is a screenshot of the Tweet that mistakenly got this account flagged as containing sensitive content. As you can see, this was an error. I would never post actual sensitive content. This Tweet will be pinned until the situation is resolved" (shown below, left).

Months later, July 18th, Twitter^[3] user @AlphaOmegaSin tweeted the image with the caption, "Mario entered the wrong warp pipe." The tweet received more than 160 likes in less than three years (shown below, center).

On March 23rd, 2021, Twitter^[4] @SuperMarioOOC85 tweeted the image, receiving more than 2,900 likes and 230 retweets in less than three days (shown below, right).

The following day, Redditor J_Man_the_german shared the image in the /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial^[5] subreddit. The post received more than 3,900 points (100% upvoted) in less than 24 hours.
