Bernie Slams Table refers to a viral clip of the United States senator Bernard "Bernie" Sanders slamming his fist on a table. Starting in late November 2019, the video gained popularity in meme edits on Twitter and Instagram.

Origin

On November 21st, 2019, comedian James Adomian posted a parody interview "BERNIE vs. BERNIE" in which he, dresses as the United States senator Bernie Sanders, interviewed Bernie Sanders.[1] The video received over 377,000 views in two weeks (shown below). At 1:32 mark in the video, Bernie Sanders pretends to slam a coffee table with his fist.



On November 25th, 2019, Twitter user @karmorx used two still images of Bernie Sanders slamming the table as a reaction (shown below, top),[2] with the post gaining over 430 retweets and 3,400 likes in two weeks. On the same day, @karmox posted a meme edit in which Bernie Sanders slammed the table to the beat of "Blue Monday" by New Order (shown below, bottom).[3] The video received over 1.2 million views in two weeks, with the tweet gaining over 21,500 retweets and 76,900 likes in the same period.

On November 25th, 2019, YouTuber notsimon reuploaded the @karmox' edit, with the video accumulating over 59,000 views in two weeks.[4] A November 26th post to /r/youtubehaiku subreddit gained over 2,700 upvotes.[5]

On November 30th, user memes_boi uploaded an edit imagining Bernie as Team Fortress 2 character Engineer attempting to repair his sentry to Instagram[6] and YouTube,[7] with the posts gaining over 13,200 views and 49,200 views in one week, respectively (shown below).



In the following days, the clip gained significant popularity in edits on Instagram, with notable edits by users ins.step,[8] lilcousinfigure[9] and hask.money.[10]
