In late 2024 through January 2025, the song became notably popular on TikTok, with memes referencing "Big Man Blastoise" also being popularized on sites like Instagram and Reddit. In January 2025, a meme coin based on the song was launched on pump.fun.
Origin
On December 30th, 2023, Genwunner posted an original song about Blastoise titled "BLASTOISE!" to Spotify,[1] garnering over 600,000 plays in a year. On May 13th, 2024, Genwunner posted an official AMV for the song to YouTuber[2] under the name "Big Man Blastoise," garnering over 86,400 views in eight months. The song is about the Pokémon Blastoise and repeats the lyrics, "Big man Blastoise" throughout.

On September 16th, 2024, Instagram[3] user strawhat_sama posted a meme using the phrase "big man Blastoise," garnering over 1,600 likes in four months. On September 25th, TikToker[4] @shybaka289 posted a video using the song over Pokken Tournament footage, garnering over 3.3 million views in the same span of time.

On January 22nd, u/jalapenoodle posted a meme to /r/notinteresting[7] titled "Unfortunate response timing on my boyfriend’s part" sharing a screenshot of a text exchange between themselves and their boyfriend, in which they text him about a dream they had where their mother died and the boyfriend responds with "BIG MAN BLastoise," garnering over 14,000 upvotes in two days.
