Origin

The exact origin of the photograph is unknown, though has been rumored to be adult film star Jaxton Wheeler.^[9] On March 3rd, 2018, the image was submitted to a /ck/ (food & cooking) thread on 4chan (shown below).^[8]

Spread

On May 3rd, 2018, the image was submitted to a 4chan thread on /bant/^[7] claiming that while "Milhouse will never be a meme", the Binocular Guy "shows a lot more potential" (shown below).

On May 16th, a screenshot of the 4chan post was submitted to /r/4chan,^[6] where it gained over 17,700 points (89% upvoted) and 550 comments in 24 hours. In the comments section, Redditor xpis2 speculated that the man in the picture is adult film star Jaxton Wheeler. That day, the same screenshot was submitted to FunnyJunk.^[1] Also on May 16th, Redditor ambientbeet submitted a post asking "What is binoculars man" to /r/OutOfTheLoop.^[5]

Meanwhile, a captioned version of the image joking about "incest porn" was submitted to /r/MemeEconomy^[3] (shown below, left). Also on May 16th, the /r/binocularguy subreddit was launched. On May 17th, Redditor MarkARosario posted the image along with a Niggas Be Like caption (shown below, right). Within nine hours, the post gained over 1,700 points (98% upvoted) on /r/dankmemes.^[2]
