About

"Bitches and Whores" is a phrase stemming from an edited comic panel featuring character Tohru Adachi, from the Japanese Role-playing video game Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. The panel is often in online forums and image-board communities as a reaction image towards a group or behavior that is deemed intolerable, and has since spawned as parodied images, along with word-play of the phrase.

Origin

The comic panel was originally taken on page 10 from the H-doujin (Hentai doujn) Sperma 4, created by Todd Special, which was based on the video game Persona 4. The comic page (shown below, left) originally shown antagonist Tohru Adachi telling the main heroes to stay out of his way, after being found out about his murderous background. According to Encyclopedia Dramatica[1], the edited image (shown below, right) was originally posted on 4chan by anonymous user sometime during 2008. The earliest archived association of the phrase with his character was the /a/[2] (Anime&Manga) board on December 27th, 2008, along with the earliest known archived posting of the image on the same board[3] on January 30th, 2009.

Soon after, the phrase would eventually be associated with Adachi by 4chan users and fans of the Persona series, characterizing him as a misogynistic. An Urban Dictionary[4] entry for the phrase would be submitted on August 13, 2009 by user Viva La Watt, describing it as a "forced meme". A Facebook[5] fan page for the image was created on September 20th, 2010, but has only gained 343 likes as of May of 2013. Search results for "Bitches and Whores" on deviantART[6] yields more then 810 submissions, as of May 2013, many of which are related to Adachi.
