On September 21st, 2024, AV Club news editor and Twitter user @grewdillis^[1] quote-tweeted a snippet of a Bjork music video, opining on a shift among modern music listeners that makes them distrustful of the taste of older music listeners. The post gained over 1,200 retweets and 20,000 likes in two days.

In response, user @Poppachill^[2] wrote, "Yeah man I’m sure people are unfamiliar with the most overplayed and overhyped normie frat bro artist of the past 30 years," gaining over 170 quote-tweets, 180 retweets and 119 likes in the same timeframe.

Spread

PoppaChill's take baffled many users and readers on Twitter, and in response to pushback, they said^[3] on September 21st, 2024, they'd never been "in or around" a fraternity but were "online friends with one guy in a frat he had a pretty broad taste in music," adding that that guy liked "The Smiths, Crass" and was "probably a Bjork fan."

The take inspired jokes and memes from other users, as Bjork's feminine and alternative music is largely thought of as antithetical to the type of aggressive and masculine music associated with college fraternities. Multiple Twitter users quote-tweeted @PoppaChill's tweet joking that others would never guess the artist they were talking about (example by @acechhh^[5] shown below).

For example, on September 22nd, 2024, Twitter user @computer_gay^[4] posted an edited video of sorority girls dancing to the Bjork song "Hyperballad," gaining over 1,300 retweets and 13,000 likes in one day.
