BLEHHHHH :P Cat or I Am Not Doing That Cat is a viral photograph of a cat sticking its tongue out, often captioned with humorous dialogue in which it refuses to do things demanded of it. First posted by the Instagram account fatfatmillycat in July 2022, the photograph gained popularity in August 2022 following a viral tweet about homework, and contributed to the spread of the Silly Cats memes.

Origin

On July 23rd, 2022, the Instagram^[1] account fatfatmullycat posted a collection of six photographs of Milly the Cat, including a photograph of the cat sticking out its tongue while looking directly at the camera (shown below, left). The post received over 6,500 likes in one month. On August 5th, 2022, the account posted^[2] the first meme based on the photograph, captioning it, "i can act rather silly at times." The post (shown below, right) gained over 32,900 likes in one month.

Spread

The photograph did not spawn a meme format until August 23rd, 2022, when Twitter^[3] user @vampiric_shirin posted a stretched version of the photograph, captioning it with a humorous exchange in which the cat refused to do homework and mocked the teacher by sticking its tongue out. The post garnered over 7,600 retweets and 48,700 likes in one week (shown below).

In the following days, more posts based on the joke were posted on Twitter. For example, on August 26th, Twitter^[4][5] users @iwuvboobsfr and @el_Fars_ posted versions that accumulated over 3,200 retweets and 25,200 likes, and 7,400 retweets and 44,600 likes in one week, respectively (shown below, left and right).

The format maintained its popularity in late August, while the photograph has also been used separately in other memes.
