B.O.B. Staring refers to a reaction meme featuring the character B.O.B. from Monsters vs. Aliens. The meme depicts a stretched, low-resolution version of B.O.B., sometimes called "Blob," smiling slightly and staring blankly into the camera. Some versions of the meme alter B.O.B. to give him two eyes instead of one. The clip came to be used as a meme on TikTok in 2024 before it was popularized on Twitter / X in February and March 2025, often used when someone has "no words" to describe or react to something out of shock or confusion.

Origin

The earliest known GIF of B.O.B. staring blankly alongside a string of laughing emojis was posted to Tenor^[3] on December 26th, 2023, by user @Big_Bob228icq.

On May 16th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @radaliensrift posted the earliest known meme featuring the clip of B.O.B staring blankly and flitting his eyes to and from the camera. The text on the video read, "Old people went the card reader says 'remove card,'" and the post gathered over 4 million plays and 700,000 likes in a year.

On July 16th, 2025, X^[9] user @YahBoiSpeedz posted a tweet claiming to have created the version of the B.O.B. Staring meme that contains a string of laughing emojis. The post gathered over 80,000 likes in two weeks.

The X user also posted screenshots showing the Discord channel the GIF was originally posted to on June 2nd, 2024, as well as the metadata of the original GIF.

On May 25th, 2024, the Instagram^[2] page @memesforjesus posted a version of the meme, writing, "How I look at bro after he says something borderline blasphemous," gathering over 8,000 likes in a year.

On November 25th, 2024, Tenor^[4] user @car_denied shared an alternate version of the meme that showed B.O.B. with two eyes instead of one.

The meme saw a resurgence in 2025, as seen in a February 17th, 2025, post by X^[5] user @jilroberts that read, "this is my reaction to everything in life recently," gathering over 470,000 likes in a month.

On March 25th, X^[6] user @yubeeri tweeted, "white people getting into janet jackson," gathering over 40,000 likes in two days.

Memes featuring hand-drawn and digitally recreated versions of the Bob Staring meme in June 2025, including X^[7] user @featureme, who posted a hand-drawn version of the meme on June 9th, 2025, that read, "just discovered I have free will," gathering over 107,000 likes in two days.

On June 10th, X^[8] user @idkwahatimdoing posted a digitally recreated version of the meme, gathering over 2.7 million views and 270,000 likes on a post captioned, "Help my gifs aren’t working."
