#BratzChallenge is a hashtag used to catalog a series of pictures of people attempting to apply makeup so that they resemble the toy dolls known as Bratz.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the hashtag was posted by Twitter [1] @maelintrw on September 25th, 2017. That day, they posted two pictures of a woman a juxtaposed by the Bratz doll she is attempting to resemble. The post received more than 25 likes in less than two years (shown below).

About one month later, on October 25th, 2017, YouTuber KaaylaDee posted a makeup tutorial using the hashtag. The post received more than 21,000 views in less than two years (shown below, left).

Over the next two years, more YouTubers continued to share both #BratzChallenge submissions and/or Bratz-related makeup tutorials. For example, just days after KaaylaDee's post, YouTuber dope2111 posted a video entitled "BRATZ DOLL Makeup Transformation!!!" The post received more than 14 million views in less than two years (shown below, right

In 2019, the hashtag re-emerged on Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag to showcase images of a woman next to the doll they hope to resemble. On January 13th, 2019, Twitter[2] user @aryarose6 tweeted the challenge (shown below, left).

On January 26th, 2019, Redditor [3] taybrittney posted an example in the /r/MakeupAddiction subreddit. The post received more than 8,000 points (97% upvoted) and 95 comments (shown below, center).

Three days later, on January 29th, Instagram[4] user @lenkalul posted an example and received more than 54,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Several media outlets covered the challenge, including PopSugar,[5] Cosmopolitan[6] and more.
