Brazilian Sadako is a fanart trend which appeared in fall 2024, in the midst of the popularity of the Brazilian Miku meme.

History

Since June 25th, 2024, a comment trend of artwork was to draw Hatsune Miku as a Brazilian. This also led to a significant amount of artworks with other characters depicted as Brazilians. On October 19th, 2024, Twitter artist Lughost posted their take on this meme[1], a drawing of The Ring character Yamamura Sadako with Latina traits. This post immediately gained massive popularity, with over 153,000 likes and 16,800 retweets in 20 days.

This idea was quickly copied by other online artists. As soon as October 20th, adriademon posted a pixel art version of it[2].

Another popular artwork was posted on Twitter by Waly_XOX on October 22nd[3], where it gained over 42100 likes and 3300 retweets.

The only thing that telling me it's a Brazilian Sadako is the name and the fan art that shows she came out of your TV. With Miku, at least you can argue that she's an empty slate that you can customize as you wish while still looks Miku enough for everyone to recognize.
