Bro, Are You Flirting With My Sister is a sketch voiced by YouTuber Jehtt featuring dialogue between Sonic and Knuckles. The sketch has inspired numerous remixes and animations on YouTube as an exploitable meme format, primarily in late 2021.
Origin
On April 26th, 2021, Twitter[6] user @EliteSonicFan posted a four-panel meme with a humorous exchange between Sonic the Hedgehog characters Sonic and Knuckles. In the sketch, Knuckles asks Sonic, "Bro, are you flirting with my sister?," to which Sonic replies, "Yes, I am!" Knuckles then asks, "Do you wanna die?" And Sonic says "Yes, I do!." The post (shown below) gained over 940 retweets and 7,700 likes in nine months.
On November 14th, 2021, YouTuber[1] Jehtt posted a sketch using modded gameplay footage and based on the exchange. The video gained over 5.6 million views within six weeks (shown below).
Spread
The video inspired reanimations shortly after it was first posted. For example, on November 11th, YouTuber[2] dungBeetle Shell posted an animation based on the video, gaining over 1.1 million views (shown below, left). On November 14th, YouTuber[3] CrowBar reanimated the scene in Source Filmmaker, gaining over 517,000 views (shown below, right).
On December 10th, Jehtt[4] uploaded a second version of the video using footage from the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer, gaining over 8 million views in 10 days (shown below, left). This sparked renewed interest in the meme, as dozens of parodies were posted after Jehtt's second video. On December 19th, YouTuber[5] T4thDoH posted a parody of the original that gained over 382,000 views in 24 hours (shown below, right).
