Bronze Age Shitposting refers to shitpost and status videos that use Bronze Age artifacts and heritage as their primary theme. Spawned by memes such as Complaint Table to Ea-nasir and Sumerian Bar Joke, the format achieved popularity on YouTube in late March 2023.

Origin

Bronze Age Shitposting largely owns its popularity to two cultural references to the Bronze Age: the complaint tablet to Ea-nasir, an ancient Babylonian clay tablet dating back to 1750 BC inscribed by customer Nanni to a copper merchant, which went viral in 2015 and has been used in memes since 2017 (example shown below, left), and to the Sumerian Bar Joke, a joke about a dog walking into a tavern that was went viral on Twitter in March 2022 (example shown below, right).

Additionally, in May 2020, Wojak Comics memes about Sumers in which they were referred to as Soomers (similarly to Coomer and other -Oomer Wojaks) saw popularity online.

On March 17th, 2023, after Complained Tablet to Ea-nasir memes regained online popularity, YouTube[1] user Gerçekten mi ? posted a 21st Century Humor video titled "Bronze age shitposts," featuring statues and artifacts from the Bronze Age era mixed with Vine Thuds and other popular memes and sound effects. The video (shown below) gained over 107,000 likes over one month.

Spread

In March and April 2023, Gerçekten mi ? and other YouTube channels posted multiple similar videos, combining imagery of Bronze Age cultural artifacts with Goofy Ahh sounds. On March 30th, Gerçekten mi ? uploaded[2] a video that gained over 196,000 views in four weeks (shown below, left). On March 31st, YouTube[3] user Carter posted a video that received over 145,000 views in the same period (shown below, right).

"Iltam Sumra Rashupti Elatim" is a sentence in Sumerian narrated in the 2015 video "Sound of Ancient Languages" (shown below, 0:55 mark). The line, sometimes with the rest of the narration, appeared has been used as a sound effect and a punchline in Bronze Age Shitposts.
