Bryan Jordan Alvarez's "Sitting" Song is a viral video of comedian Bryan Jordan Alvarez singing a nonsense song about the act of sitting with the memorable line "Sitting is the opposite of standing." The tune was popularized on social media following its release in mid-September 2023 as several musicians covered or remixed the song to fit various genres, as well as TikTokers using it in skits and other videos.

Origin

On September 10th, 2023, Bryan Jordan Alvarez posted a video of himself as his "TJ Mack" character singing a nonsense song about the act of sitting on his social media accounts.^[1]^[2] The most viral upload was on TikTok, where it gained 41,000 likes in three days (shown below).

Over the following days, the song was covered by numerous musicians on social media. On September 13th, 2023, TikTok user @thisiskory posted a soft folk version of the song on their TikTok, gaining over 1,400 likes in one day (shown below, top). On the same day, Twitter user @d0ctorn0gloff posted a J-fusion remix of the video, gaining over 720 retweets and 3,900 likes in one day (shown below, bottom).

On Instagram, popular covers include a bass cover posted September 13th by user @grapeofwrath that gained over 540 likes in one day (shown below, top) and a folk cover posted September 10th by user @tristanmcaroll that gained over 290 likes in three days (shown below, bottom).

Animated Music Video

On September 17th, TikToker Joshmacmusicc^[4] uploaded a remix of the song. On September 21st, 2023, animator kissingparty uploaded an animated music video for the Joshmacmusicc version of the song to TikTok, where it gathered nearly 900,000 views within two weeks (shown below). Brian Jordan Alvarez subsequently reposted a clip of the animation, gaining an addition 1.6 million views within the same timeframe.^[3]
