About

Bugs Bunny Dying, also known as Pernalonga Dramático in Portuguese, refers to a close-up image of Looney Tunes character Bugs Bunny faking his death while in the arms of the hunter Elmer Fudd. The image has been used online since June 2020 as a reaction image meme about being dramatic or overreacting to something.

Origin

On July 27th, 1940, the Looney Tunes cartoon titled A Wild Hare premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the cartoon, the character Bugs Bunny acts like Elmer Fudd shoots him and is slowly dying in his arms. On September 20th, 2014, Vimeo[2] user @Times uploaded a clip from the episode (shown below), which amassed more than 24,700 views and 42 likes in a decade.

About a year after the Vimeo clip was posted, Medium[3] user Leda Marcondes uploaded a still image of Bugs Bunny lying down in the hunter's arm as a header for an article about animation and the movie industry (shown below).

Spread

The image grew as a reaction image a few years later, in June 2020, especially with Brazilian Facebook and iFunny users. For instance, on June 19th, 2020, the Facebook[4] meme page @memesamorzin used the Bugs Bunny still image alongside the overlay text in Portuguese "I think I'll die, don't go" in a post about a lover not wanting the other to leave. The post (shown below, left) received more than 940 likes and 350 shares in four years.

On May 25th, 2020, iFunny[5] user @Geraldog_2017 posted the image paired with the macro in Portuguese "My aunt finding out that I delete all the good morning images she sends on the family's group chat." The post (shown below, right) received roughly 20 reactions in four years.
