About

A Hot New Bombshell Enters The Villa refers to a sound used by Spanish-British pop star Mabel's Twitter account announcing that she was to appear on series 7 of the ITV show Love Island to perform some of her hits as part of a Spotify sponsored party. The sound would later be uploaded by an unofficial Love Island TikTok account and became a meme in mid-2022, with numerous users announcing a "hot new bombshell" entering "the villa", which may refer to an unexpected surprise depending on the scenario.

Origin

On July 31st, 2021, it was announced via Love Island's Twitter account[1] that Spanish-British pop star Mabel would appear on the show for its Spotify party the following week, performing her then-new song "Let Them Know" and a medley of her other hits. The tweet received 3,000 likes in 1 year.

On August 2nd, 2021, Mabel uploaded a Love Island-style introductory video promoting the Spotify party onto her Twitter account[2] which includes the opening line "This week, a hot new bombshell enters the villa", before Mabel's hit song "Don't Call Me Up" plays. The tweet received 1,200 likes in 1 year.

Spread

The beginning of the introduction from Mabel, including the "Hot New Bombshell" line, would later be posted as a sound onto an unofficial Love Island TikTok account (@lovesislandz), where it would later go viral in mid-2022. One of the earliest examples of the sound being used was with a Kim Kardashian meme uploaded by TikTok user @kardashians.jenner.xo, which was uploaded on May 11th, 2022. The video received 113,800 views and 7,000 likes in 2 months (shown below, left).

User Kini (@teeny.kini) uploaded a video on June 18th, 2022 that received 7.1 million views and 1.8 million likes in 1 month (shown below, left). British pop star Ed Sheeran uploaded a video of him on a kids tricycle on July 9th that got 11.6 million views and 1.9 million likes in almost 3 weeks (shown below, right).
