…is a copypasta repurposed from the popular meme "He Protec but He Also Attac"^[2]. It is used around Reddit as a direct form of trolling user /u/whicketywack. Hundreds of Redditors have copied and pasted the meme thousands of times in response to everything /u/whicketywack has ever posted. Every new post or comment by /u/whicketywack is greeted shortly with the copypasta, without fail.

Origin

On November 30, 2017, Redditor /u/MrSprinklesYay^[3] posted a comment in response to this Reddit post made by /u/whicketywack in the subreddit /r/me_irl^[4]. Here's the comment:

This is the first occurrence of the meme. Members of private subreddit /r/ProjectBoom^[5] (an exclusive subreddit composed of 2,000 carefully selected /r/me_irl users focused on trolling and shitposting) noticed /u/MrSprinklesYay's comment and decided to expand the concept. Led by one of the /r/ProjectBoom moderators named /u/oceanpizza123^[6], members of the subreddit went through /u/whicketywack 's history and pasted the copypasta in response to every single post or comment he has ever made.

Members of /r/ProjectBoom continued to bombard the meme in response to anything posted by /u/whicketywack anywhere on Reddit.

Finally, on December 8, 2017, /u/whicketywack made this post to /r/me_irl to inquire about the meme and find out what was going on. Of course, no answers were provided: the only comments made in response to the post were the meme itself (hundreds of times). The post quickly reached the front page of /r/me_irl and effectively sparked the mass-spread of the meme. The meme began appearing all around Reddit on posts totally unrelated to /u/whicketywack simply for the sake of spreading the meme.

On February 24, 2018, /r/ProjectBoom member /u/meetaaron^[7] responded to this post about the meme that had utilized a Google Maps screenshot of Wickady Wack Skate Shack in Canada in a spinoff of the meme. He said he lives near the skate shack and would travel there for the sake of taking a selfie. Later that day, /u/meetaaron delivered and created the following album: https://imgur.com/a/9nEG6

User /u/oceanpizza123, the most prolific poster of the copypasta and the moderator of /r/ProjectBoom who first spread the meme, has been falsely identified as a bot by /u/GoodBot_BadBot^[8] on it's popular bot tracking website^[9] despite being a human being:

One /r/me_irl user went as far as to develop a bot named /u/but_most_importantly^[10] that will automatically post the meme in response to any quickly-rising comments made by /u/whicketywack.

Reddit user and musician /u/Captain-Sugar^[11] took notice of the meme and decided to compose a song about the meme. Here is the song, titled "The Ballad of Whicketywack"^[12]:

The copypasta is now posted multiple times in response to every single post or comment /u/whicketywack makes on Reddit by subscribers of /r/me_irl, and beyond.

I documented this meme because I get asked daily about the origin and am tired of explaining.
