"But, Peter, You're Going to Die Doing This" is a line spoken by Mary Jane Watson to Peter Parker in issue #32 of the Spider-Man comic "Ultimate Spider-Man: Public Scrutiny." On TikTok, it is often used in combination with songs as a backing track to various edits, showcasing a person being passionate about something.
Origin
"MURDERER! – Ultimate Spider-Man: Public Scrutiny | Part Four & Five | Issue #31, 32 – Motion Comic" was uploaded to YouTube as a fan dub of the comic book on March 28th, 2020.[1] Future edits of Watson reading "Peter, you're going to die doing this!" were taken from this dub.

The earliest use of these specific vocals was on a Spider-Man edit on TikTok posted on December 19th, 2022 by real.frr1. The line reading was combined with "Heart to Heart" by Mac DeMarco.[2]

One of the earliest instances of an edit using these vocals comes from YouTube. An edit made by YouTuber Badman on April 1st, 2023 combined Mary Jane's lines and several others from the same episode of the fan dub.[3] The video gained over 50,000 views in eighteen months.
Another early edit Spider-Man edit was released on November 3rd, 2023 by Ludochris_edits, utilizing "Jealous" by Eyedress as the backing track.[4]
The most popular song used in edits is "Glare" by Void in Blue. On August 15th, 2024, TikTok user soggy_apple_[5] made an edit with this song that gained over 7.5M views and 1.5M likes in less than a month.

The "Glare" version of the sound was used all across TikTok to generate over 37,500 videos in two months.[6] The videos primarily consisted of either gym or sports content, as well as other videos demonstrating commitment to a craft.
