Choose Your Character or #ChooseYourCharacter refers to a series of TikTok parodies in which users mimic video game character menus using their own characters to the "Super Smash Melee Menu Theme Remix" by Jim Walter.

Origin

On Jun 24th, 2016, Jim Walter uploaded the menu theme remix to YouTube (shown below, left). The video has received 24,769 views in three years. Although the origin of the parody videos are unknown the earliest YouTube upload of Choose Your Character was on November 9th, 2018. BurritoKyle uploaded the TikTok video which gained over 9,900 views in six months (shown below, right).

Spread

The Original sound clip by Jim Walter has been used in over 387,100 videos in six months. Many of the first iterations was made in a duet chain. On November 10th, @freethejuul uploaded a chain which gained over 172,300 likes and 27,000 shares in six months (shown below, left). On November 11th, @jackriyn uploaded a video in which he plays multiple obscure characters (shown below, right). The video has gained over 406,000 likes and 8,500 shares in six months.

The next day, YouTuber Randy Ronda uploaded a popular Choose Your Character compilation (shown below, left). The video gained over 463,200 views and 9,900 likes in six months. On November 29th, YouTuber Visicks uploaded another compilation video which gained over 307,000 views and 5,000 likes in five months (shown below, right).
