About
Chowda or Chowda I Need X refers to an image of the character Mung Daal from the cartoon Chowder with extended arms and an insane look on his face captioned "CHOWDA!!!" as if yelling the name of the show's title character, Chowder. The image of Daal comes from the episode "The Party Cruise" and became the subject of image macros and photoshops as an exploitable format in 2018, typically accompanied by ironic quotes about Daal needing various things from Chowder.
Origin
On April 2nd, 2009, season two, episode 7a of Chowder aired, titled "The Party Cruise."[1] In one scene, Mung Daal has a breakdown after a Blufferfish gets away from him, which then results in his expression that's used in the meme format (shown below). The clip was uploaded to YouTube on November 1st, 2016, gaining over 1.4 million views in 13 years.
On June 20th, 2018, Know Your Meme[2] user FigureGunplaFan posted a PNG of Daal in his breakdown, gaining over 3,800 views in four years. This is currently the earliest known upload of the image. On November 28th that year, a now-deleted Redditor posted a now-deleted meme to /r/Memes_Of_The_Dank[3] using a screenshot from the scene captioned, "CHOWDA, I NEED THAT JEWISH PUSSY NOW," gaining six upvotes before deletion (shown below). It was archived by awwmemes[4] on November 29th and is the oldest known example of the format.
Spread
The meme inspired numerous ironic variations on Reddit, including a post to /r/whothefuckup[5] and one to /r/memes_of_the_dank[6] in early 2019, although none went significantly viral. On April 17th, 2019, Instagram[7][8][9] user killermemes.v3.3 reposted three variations of the meme taken from Reddit (shown below in chronological order).
On November 26th, Instagram[10] user nova_xeno posted a version about Chowder "not respecting the pouch," gaining over 7,500 likes in just over a year (shown below).
On February 15th, 2021, Instagram[11] user codlags posted a version of the meme referencing Fallout, gaining over 4,700 likes in a year (shown below).
