Coconut Gun refers to a line from the "DK Rap" from the video game Donkey Kong 64 that reads ""His Coconut Gun can fire in spurts // If he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt." The line started becoming a meme after it was featured in a popular video by SiIvaGunner.

Origin

Donkey Kong 64 was released on November 22nd, 1999.^[1] The game plays a rap at the beginning which became famous after its release (shown below). The line appears in the song in reference to the title character.

Spread

The line became a meme following a video by SiIvaGunner from May 24th, 2016 which repeated and emphasized the line about the coconut gun. The video gained over 1.2 million views (shown below).

On June 24th, 2016, YouTuber Chirbeef uploaded a video pairing the song with the video for the song, gaining over 76,000 views (shown below, left). On November 30th, 2016, YouTuber Burgoton uploaded a remix of the song with "Feel Good Inc." by the Gorillaz that gained over 28,000 views.
