Coffin vs. Sarcophagus is a series of three-panel exploitables in which a sarcophagus labeled with something humorous serves as the punchline to two coffins labeled "successful people" and "unsuccessful people," respectively.

Origin

On June 6th, 2016, Instagram [1] user @the.grinch.stole.my.virginity posted an image of two identical coffins labeled "successful" and "unsuccessful," respectively. The post (shown below) received more than 43 likes in two years.

The following year, on January 13th, 2017, Tumblr [2] user chadwicc published the image and added a third pane: a sarcophagus labeled " Minecraft YouTubers. The post (shown below) received more than 66,000 notes in a year and a half.

Three months later, Twitter [4] user @iconickkk tweeted an image of the two coffins with the third panel labeled "Student Athletes." The post (shown below, left) received more than 16,000 retweets and 57,000 likes in 15 months.

On April 11th, Instagram[3] user @classicalfuck posted a variation in which the third panel is labeled "Meme page admin." The post (shown below, center) more than 6,500 likes in one year.

Two months later, on June 20th, Facebook [5] user I didn't steal your meme, I borrowed it posted a variation in which the third panel shows an image of the Egyptian pyramids labeled SoundCloud rappers." The post (shown below, right) received more than 4,300 reactions, 600 shares and 200 comments.

On June 17th, 2018, Redditor SnowballingShampoo posted a variation in the "/r/MemeEconomy" subreddit. In this version, the third panel references the people who thank the bus driver meme. The post (shown below) received more than 12,400 points (91% upvoted) and 140 comments in two days.
