About

Cold Face Emoji refers to a blue-colored emoji with gritted teeth, suggesting it's freezing. Online, the emoji is often used as a comment on an emotionally distant or "cool" thing, occasionally being used like Ice In My Veins pose alongside Sheesh videos.

Origin

On July 5th, 2018, the emoji became part of Unicode 11.0 with the name "Freezing Face." It was added to Emoji 11.0 in the same year[1] (shown below).

Spread

The emoji grew popular as a way to express that a person or character is "cool." For example on October 1st, 2022, YouTube[2] user Anime Wo uploaded shorts of the character Monkey D. On October 26th, 2022, YouTube[3] user NQ Films uploaded a Breaking Bad clip titled "So Cold 🥶 | Breaking Bad". The video received more than 1.1 million views in ten months (shown below, right).

Sheesh

Sheesh, or Sheeesh, is a popular slang term and an alternative to "jeez" or "damn," used to express surprise or disbelief about something, often in a positive manner, and hype up or compliment another person. The term has existed since the 1950s and saw a significant increase in use throughout the 2010s, popularized to a degree by NBA player LeBron James and drip culture, inspiring a popular sound on TikTok in early 2021. The expression is often combined with the Ice In My Veins pose (examples shown below).
