Creepy Mario was first started on the video game blog, 1up, in 2010. It depicted Shigeru Miyamoto cutting a cake for Mario's 25th anniversary, with a man in a Mario costume in the background. It did not take long for people to notice the star of the picture, Mario, due to his creepy gaze, and pedophile-esque stance.
History
In the 2010 Super Mario Anniversary Gallery, there was a Mario costume, which kids could meet. The Mario photobombed some pictures. With his creepy, blank stare, he was eventually photoshopped into other pictures, similar to Pedobear and Weegee.
Spread
In addition to 1up, it spread to website such as Ugo and tumblr, as well as Buzzfeed and N4G.
