About
CryptoPunks are a collection of 10,000 algorithmically generated crypto art characters created as one of the first non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Ethereum.
Origin
In June 2017, CryptoPunks were released by Larva Labs,[1] allowing anyone to claim the NFTs for free into their wallets using the Ethereum blockchain.
Spread
On January 14th, 2018, YouTuber Hashoshi uploaded a video titled "Cryptopunks! Explained!," which described the history of the NFTs (shown below).
On May 22nd, YouTuber DCL Blogger uploaded a video about how CryptoPunks were selling for "$10,000 – $18,000 USD" (shown below).
Alien CryptoPunk Sales
On March 10th, 2021, CryptoPunk #7804 was purchased for 4,200 ETH, approximately $7.5 million USD at the time.
