About
Djent is a subgenre of progressive metal that typically consists of heavily distorted, palm-muted guitar chords, syncopated riffs and polyrhythms alongside virtuoso soloing. [2]
History
Djent music was introduced in the 1995 album Destroy Erase Improve (shown below, left). In the 2000's Djent started to gain attention around the world with the release of Meshuggah's album Nothing (shown below, right), which became the 165th album on the US Billboard 200 list.[1] Several other Djent bands were formed soon after, such as Periphery and Animals As Leaders.

Djent has faced criticism among the metal community with some doubting it's validity as a subgenre while others tread it as a short lived fad.
