About
The Y2K Aesthetic is the name given to a visual aesthetic and fashion style that reached mainstream prominence between 1993 and 2003.[1] Named after the Y2K Bug, the style varies in visual identity, with common elements being blobby shapes, technological motifs, and synthetic textures such as metal and plastic. The aesthetic also incorporates a wide array of music genres including techno, IDM, big beat, house, drum and bass, Eurodance, and bubblegum pop. In the 2010s, the Y2K aesthetic gained renewed interest within internet culture, and several websites dedicated to documenting the history of the style were launched, including the Y2K Aesthetic Institute [2].
