Cunny is a slang term meaning "vagina" that is popular online and in memes, often associated with lolicon or hentai imagery. The term dates back to as early as the 17th century and is likely derived from and a pun of the term "coney" referring to a rabbit mixed with the word "cunt," a vulgar term for vagina. A common joke involves mis-defining the word as a combination of "cute" and "funny."

Origin

One of the earliest recorded uses of the term "cunny" appears in an October 25th, 1668, diary entry by Samuel Pepys in which he describes being caught having an affair, writing, "Endeed I was with my main [hand] in her cunny. I was at a wonderful loss upon it."^[1] The term likely evolved as a pun on the word "coney," (pronounced phonetically as "cunny") an old term for a rabbit.^[2]

The word has been adopted online as a funny way of referring to the vagina, with examples of it being used on forums like 4chan^[3] and in image macros as early as 2010. One early joke that appears in a number of memes around that time revolves around the pun "cunny funt," a version of the phrase "funny cunt" with the first letters of each word swapped (shown below).^[4]

On June 26th, 2021, Instagram^[5] user @born.hot.memes posted a meme by @lolijesus (since deleted) consisting of an image of an anime girl in a McDonald's uniform saying, "Sir this is a MacDonalds, we don't have 'McLolipussy' and a 'cunny soda,' do you want a big mac and coke with fries instead?" (shown below). The post gained over 14,000 views in a month.
