Dancing Base is an infamous art template used on DeviantArt as a running gag. It displays the base of two pointed-eared humanoids holding each other, obviously dancing.

Origin: The Template

Drawn by pokemonloveme88, Dancing Base was initially created as an original template for artists to use--in this case, a guideline to draw a dancing couple. She had no intention of making the template comedic material, but as a serious artwork. However, due to amateur anatomy skill, her template barely received any attention.

The Appeal

On March 12, 2010, DeviantArt user, LazyMuFFin used pokemonloveme88's Dancing Base as a joke for his Base Party series.

Widely known for his comedic value on Deviant Art, LazyMuFFin's work caught a lot of attention and humor by using pokemonloveme88's Dancing Base. Soon after, others used the template to draw pairings and numerous fan-shipping couples, ultimately resulting in the creation of it's own fan-club group. The reactions varied--from being appalled to amazed.

Critique by *SeriousDelirious May 16, 2010, 11:55:30 AM Devious Rating This piece of art is nearly flawless - My breath is taken away by the gorgeous palette and use of colours used to depict this wonderful work Pictured in this piece is the artist and a fiction object of affections. You can tell by the emotion in each of their faces that it pains them that they cannot be together in real life. The background obviously took a lot of work. As with the foreground, naturally. It is no wonder that the artist used the phrase "Don't steal it!" within the piece. It must mean a lot to her, and it took a lot of time, effort and talent. Technique ☆☆☆☆☆ All in all, "ME AND ALLEN 4EVER" is an emotional piece, made gorgeous with the use of such a high quality program as MSPaint. I applaud the artist for her efforts. What do you think?
