Darkness

About

Dustiness Ford Lalatina, or simply known as Darkness, is a major protagonist of light novel and anime series KonoSuba. She came from a high-dignitary family Dustness, and joined Kazuma's party as a crusader with a severe masochistic tendencies.

Origin

Darkness was introduced on the first issue of the web novel in December 20th, 2012, as a 22-years old young lady. Later in October 1st, 2013, the light novel was released featuring Darkness as an 18-years old, as well as the other characters having their ages reduced (Megumin was 18 then 13, Kazuma 20 then 16) except Aqua. She retained her current age at the first episode of the anime, as well as Megumin and Kazuma. The first episode itself aired in January 14th, 2016^[1].

As a crusader, she presents herself with aura of pride and nobility, and willing to protect anyone by using herself as a living shield. She speaks in a very serious tone of voice and often comes off as very mature. However, it is well known by the fandom that she is a complete masochistic pervert, in the state that some fans described her as more perverted than Kazuma. In fact, most of her heroic acts are driven by her masochistic urges. Her masochism extends to verbal abuse as well, a running gag being how she often responds to Kazuma’s sharp insults with her reeling back in pleasure. Throughout the story, she becomes progressively more open about her true intentions, to the point where she blatantly reveals her reason for becoming a crusader was in hopes of being sexually tortured by the Demon King.

Despite so, Darkness yet having reason of her acts – She has the strongest body in the whole kingdom, as speculated by Kazuma, and her durability makes her able to survive high-level attacks, such as Megumin's explosion. Her stamina also the largest in the party, meaning that she has the second largest mana in the party. This makes her an emergency mana supply, as shown when Kazuma drain touched her to recover Wiz. The drain touch itself has no effect to her. However, despite her incredible strength, she is so clumsy that she never able to hit even a large stationary target. This however changes when Vanir possessed her, making her accuracy increased significantly. Kazuma used this trick to make her and Vanir a decoy on the Konosuba Movie^[1].

Darkness are very well-known in the fandom, especially due to her perverted nature. Her well-endowed body also make her an ideal waifu for the fans, as well as making her quite not save for work. This even leads to the creation of her own subreddit at r/lalatina^[2], with about 20.500 members at the moment this article published. The subreddit focused on posting erotic fan arts of Darkness.

Her perverted nature also makes her a popular meme subject, with most of the memes mocked her masochistic nature. Some of the memes also comparing her with Aqua^[3].
