David Dobrik's Flying Tesla Stunt refers to a video uploaded by YouTuber David Dobrik in which motorcycle stunt driver josh_ofthe_jungle speeds Dobrik's Tesla Model X over a large hill in a residential neighborhood of Los Angeles sending the car airborne. The stunt which was uploaded in January 2020 incited a response from Elon Musk on Twitter and various viewers who criticized the dangerous stunt.

Origin

On January 27th, 2020, YouTuber David Dobrik uploaded "MY TESLA FLEW OFF THE GROUND!!" which has gained over nine million views and 703,000 likes in a week (shown below). In the video according to The Eastsider LA,^[5] Dobrik's friend josh_ofthe_jungle^[6] drove Dobrik's Tesla over Baxter and Alvarado streets in Elysian Heights.

On January 28th, Dobrik to Twitter to share a short clip of the jump with the caption, "These speed bumps in LA are on another level" (shown below). The tweet garnered over 426,600 likes and 44,800 retweets in a week (shown below).

That day, Elon Musk responded to the tweet with an exclamation mark and Dobrik retweeted it saying, "Does this mean my warranty is canceled" (shown below, left).^[1] Dobrik's response received 158,100 likes and 6,100 retweets in a week. Many Twitter users did not appreciate the stunt. For example, that day, Twitter user @stillgray^[2] tweeted, "Driving past the speed limit in a residential area is a dick move. Doesn't matter how 'safe' you think you are--the public isn't aware of the danger you pose. Many people have had their lives irrevocably changed because someone thought it'd be funny to drive recklessly for clout" (shown below, right). The tweet accumulated over 450 likes in a week. Both The Daily Dot^[4] and Dexerto^[3] covered the story.
