DJ Khaled Playing Guitar refers to a viral video of musician and producer DJ Khaled receiving a guitar and attempting to play it, even though he clearly has no knowledge of how to play the instrument. The video spread on several social media sites as people mocked DJ Khaled's earnestness with the guitar despite not knowing how to play it.

Origin

In October of 2021, DJ Khaled received a guitar either from Guild Guitars or the Bob Marley estate as thanks for being a fan of Marley's music.^[1] At the start of the video, Khaled's assistant reads a note from the sender that says, "This guitar inspired songs that helped unite the world, and we hope it inspires you as well." Khaled then slaps the guitar strings a-rhythmically while his left hand flails on the guitar's neck. On October 22nd, 2021, it was posted to Reddit's /r/sadcringe by user zenukeify, where it gained over 39,000 points in three days^[2] (shown below). It is unclear where the video was first posted.

Spread

The video quickly spread around Twitter after appearing on Reddit. User @jon_christian^[3] posted it with the caption, "i have died because this video has killed me," gaining over 4,000 retweets and 32,000 likes (shown below, left). User @CaptCrustacean^[4] wrote, "I truly believe DJ Khaled can’t read, play guitar, and has no idea which way land is," gaining over 800 retweets and 6,500 likes (shown below, right).
