DJ Khaled "Life Is Roblox" is a viral video of DJ Khaled backing up over a curb with his golf cart, almost getting it stuck, then driving toward the camera and saying, "In life there's roadblocks. Don't let nothing stop you, 'cause we ain't stopping." The video was posted to DJ Khaled's Instagram account as a reel on January 2nd, 2023, and went viral over the following months in edits where he is misquoted as saying "life is Roblox," which it arguably sounds like Khaled is saying in the video. Prior to this, Khaled posted another video to Instagram in 2017 where he says a similar phrase, which has also been misquoted as Khaled saying "In life, you have Roblox." In July 2023, an original sound remixing a slowed-down version of the "life is Roblox" audio with the Sade song "Kiss of Life" inspired Pinkcore edits on TikTok where a person transitions into a Roblox character while running away from the camera.

Origin

On December 20th, 2017, DJ Khaled posted a video to Instagram^[1] in which he tries to drive his jet ski over some debris blocking a channel of water and gets stuck. In the video, while he's stuck in the debris, he says, "In life there's roadblocks, the key is to overcome it," garnering over 324,000 views in six years. Some comments under the post misquote Khaled as saying "In life you have Roblox," also inspiring memes referencing Roblox, such as a video uploaded by YouTuber^[2] GAMEING ING on December 16th, 2022, garnering around 3,000 views in seven months (shown below).

On January 2nd, 2023, DJ Khaled uploaded a video of himself golfing to Instagram,^[3] garnering over 711,000 views in six months. Originally, at the end of the video, Khaled backs his golf cart up over a curb, almost getting it stuck, then drives towards the camera and says, "In life there's roadblocks. Don't let nothing stop you." However, it appears as though the part where he gives the advice has been cut from the upload. The deleted clip from the video gained viral spread over the following days, including a repost to the RapMusic YouTube^[4] channel (shown below).

On January 7th, TikToker^[5] @anadazztv posted the clip with the caption "DJ Khaled speaking facts," misquoting Khaled in the captions as if Khaled said, "Life is Roblox," garnering over 6.4 million views in six months (shown below).

Spread

The clip inspired several notable memes over the following months. On January 24th, 2023, Redditor u/AhumanWithButter posted a screenshot to /r/GoCommitDie^[6] showing their Roblox chat filled with users sending the false DJ Khaled quote, garnering over 60 upvotes in six months. On March 30th, YouTuber^[7] SytherSake posted an edit of the December 2017 Roblox clip, garnering over 340,000 views in four months (shown below, left). On May 16th, YouTuber^[8] Critical Chum posted an animation recreating the video in Roblox, garnering over 14,000 views in two months (shown below, right).

On May 27th, TikToker^[9] @dzej_mro_zi posted an edit of the clip adding a clip of someone who looks like Khaled but is not,^[10] twerking underwater, garnering over 16 million views in two months (shown below).

"Life Is Roblox" Pinkcore Edits / Roblox Character Transition Trend

On July 9th, 2023, TikToker^[11] @trahadrom3000 posted a Pinkcore edit that begins with a kid lip dubbing to a slowed-down version of the "life is Roblox" audio remixed with "Kiss of Life" by Sade, who then walks away and becomes a Roblox character, garnering over 2.4 million views in nine days (shown below).

The original sound was used over 1,000 times over the following days in further Pinkcore edits, sometimes featuring footage of DJ Khaled and often starting with someone saying the line into the camera, then running away and transitioning into a Roblox character. For example, on July 16th, TikTokers^[12][13] @ethan_brando and @justmel0l posted videos like this that gained over a million views and 600,000 views respectively in two days (shown below, left and right).
